How To Export WhatsApp Chats Without Limit (Upto 40,000 Messages)

Every social media app was initially launched with a purpose to fulfil, which however got modified into something completely different. For example, Facebook was launched in order to help Harvard students connect with each other. But, look at the app now, it’s popularity got expanded with each coming day and now almost everyone is familiar with the app and using it to send messages, follow celebrities, create own pages and share memes, posts pictures, stories and so on. Just like Facebook, there were many other apps which got sidetracked by their purpose whereas one app which sticked to its motive even after years of updates and modifications is WhatsApp.

The simple and securing messaging app, WhatsApp has been focusing on the main motive since the very beginning and that is, messaging. So, they take a break from such apps in order to have peace for some days. But, obviously WhatsApp might contain your important chats and data which you can’t lose. So, what will you do in such situation? Is there any possibility you can export those chats? Yes, there is. You can use the WhatsApp Chat Export feature to export the entire chat with someone which will be stored in readable form in your phone. Keep in mind, it is completely different from Chat Backups. Difference between Chat Exports Vs Chat Backups

Chat Backups is something you might have heard about a lot, WhatsApp even keeps on reminding you to backup your chats to Google Drive or iCloud. You can turn off the option and turn it on whenever you want. The similarity between Chat Export and Chat Backups is that, both the features have the same function of storing your chats and media on your phone.

Now, lets talk about the difference between them. WhatsApp Chat Backups are encrypted which means no one- not you, not WhatsApp or any of your friend can see the Backed Up Chats. You will have to first reinstall your WhatsApp with the same WhatsApp account which was used to back them up, and then restore that backup on your WhatsApp. Those chats will be backed up and you will be able to view them on WhatsApp.

Whereas, WhatsApp Chat Export is a feature which lets your export a particular chat which will be stored as a text file (in .txt format). They will be saved on your phone and you can view them whenever you want. It can’t be viewed in WhatsApp. 

How To Export WhatsApp Chats

Exporting Chats is one of the easiest and helpful method which can be done by both Android and iOS device. It is one of the method to restore a deleted WhatsApp group if you ever by chance delete your important groups. Follow the exact steps as explained below to export your WhatsApp chat.

For Android Users

Method 1

  1. Go To WhatsApp of your smartphone and find the person’s chat you want to export.
  2. It can be an individual or a group chat. When you find it. Click on the chat.
  3. Then, look at the top right corner and you will find a three dotted icon along with voice call and a video call option. Click on that three dotted icon.
  4. Some options will appear on your screen, choose ‘More‘ from these.
  5. Now that you chose More, another set of options will appear. Tap on ‘Export Chat’ to continue.
  6. WhatsApp will ask you if you want to include media or not. You can choose any of the two options depending on your choice. But, keep in mind, if you tap on ‘Include Media’, the size of your export will increase and you will be able to export only up to 10,000 messages.
  7. If you select ‘Without Media’ option, you can export up to 40,000 messages on your phone. Once you tap on any of these options, choose how and where you want to send this exported file.
  8. Select any from the options given on your screen- Bluetooth, WhatsApp, Gmail, Copy To My Files and so on.
  9. As soon as you select it, your chats will be exported and you are done.

Method 2

  1. Go To WhatsApp and tap on the three dot icon placed at the top right corner along with search.
  2. Select Settings and go to ‘Chats’.
  3. After coming on ‘Chats’ page, scroll down and click on ‘Chat History’.
  4. You will find four options on your screen, from these, tap on ‘Export Chat’.
  5. Then, choose the person who’s chat you want to export and click on that individual.
  6. You can export one chat at a time. You will be asked if you want to export it With Media or Without It. Tap on any of the option.
  7. At last, select the method by which you want to send this exported chat.

For iOS users

Method 1

  1. Go to WhatsApp and open any chat which you want to export.
  2. Then, tap on that person’s name and you will find yourself in the Contact Info. tab having some options each functioning in its unique way. The starred messages can be used to access saved messages of this chat,  mute button can be used for disabling this chat’s notifications and so on.
  3. Scroll down a little bit and click on the ‘Export Chat’ option.
  4. Select ‘Attach Media’ if you want to export with media otherwise choose the second option which is, ‘Without Media’.
  5. If you choose to Attach media, you won’t be able to export large number of chats whereas you won’t have to face this problem if you choose ‘Without Media’ option.
  6. Without media, you will be able to export up to 40,000 messages and With media, only up to 10,000 messages.
  7. At last, select how you want to send this exported chat and you are done.

Method 2

  1. Go to WhatsApp and tap on ‘Settings’ icon placed at the bottom.
  2. Select ‘Chats’ option you can see right under ‘Accounts’ option.
  3. Click on ‘Export Chat’ and select the individual whose chats you want to export.
  4. Tap on either ‘Add Media’ or ‘Without Media’ option and at last, choose the option by which you want to send this exported chat.
